Camp Notes.....
Hollister Hills SVRA Ride - June 21-24, 2007

This long weekend turnout of club members and their
families/friends was very reminiscent of previous Hollister Hills
weekends.   Trying to scout out camping spots and hold those
spots for late arrivals worked out this time, but as the club grows
there will be some planning to do on the part of club officers.
Camp was once again set up at Lodge Camp near the store, 1/2
backing up to the creek and 1/2 backing up to the main road.
Main camp where we had dinners was on the road side.  The
creek side was the beginning of raccoons, skunks, and wild pig
nocturnal dealings and the road side was home to its share of
wild animals and early risers taking to the road.   Some members
entertained themselves to a new camp game of "washers".
Having a camp white board to post ride times and special events
was a great suggestion, but we forgot the dry erase markers.....

Weather
The weather was really just perfect day and night with no
complaints at all.  Winds arrived during late camp breakdown on
Sunday afternoon.

Food
Kudos to our chef, Jim Penn, who was instrumental in feeding us
steak, chicken, and tri-tip over the course of the weekend.  His
mastery of the grill didn't go unnoticed and was much
appreciated by all.   Potluck additions complimented Jim's main
course, and a Saturday birthday celebration for Tyler and Jordan
was enjoyed in camp. "Taco Soup" was the camp side dish
award winner cooked up real special by Mrs. McLaughlin from
Loomis.   That recipe could be a county fair award winner!!    A
special thanks goes out to Dana for his generous ice cream
snack trip to the store for the kids.  Thanks Uncle Tutt!!

Terrain / Traction
The ground was quite dusty on the upper hill rides. Water trucks
kept the main roads and tracks watered down, but there wasn't
anyone who didn't eat some dust during the weekend.

Crashes
Well where do I begin.....after showcasing Pat's fall on the
previous Hollister trip it was only fitting that yours truly had the
scariest fall of the weekend.   Ironically, Pat was my saviour as
he doubled back once I wasn't on his back wheel anymore.
Luckily I suffered only black and blue bruises and front
suspension parts tweaking.  I thought I was on a blue trail, but
actually after going back to the crash site I was reminded by
Dana that I was on a PINK trail (Ha Ha).   Some other club
members shared their war wounds after rides such as Merrill,
Nick, and Ryan (Justin's friend).   I guess it was karma that it was
my turn to crash to be able to report from a first person
perspective, but more importantly it keeps Carmichael Honda
Motorsports parts division in demand after long weekend rides.  I
believe Dana is working on a two week ride so that everyone will
eventually break something on their bikes.    All in all, safety was
good and once again I appreciate Pat going through the series
of concussion tests as I was gathering my wits at the bottom of
the hill.
